OPEN POSITIONS

The Roumen Tsanev Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is Bulgaria's leading research institution in molecular and cellular biology. We are inviting applications for the following positions in the newly forming ERA Chair group (project AEGIS-IMB, HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-TALENTS-01):

 

SENIOR SCIENTIST

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in chromatin biology, particularly in relation to the investigation of disease mechanisms and is expected to:
•           Design and execute complex experiments to investigate the role of chromatin structure in biological processes, including development, differentiation, and disease.
•           Develop and implement new methods for studying chromatin biology, including the use of advanced imaging techniques, genome-wide analysis, and other cutting-edge approaches.
•           Analyse and interpret data generated from experiments and present findings to the scientific community through publications and presentations at conferences.
•           Collaborate with other members of the team and external partners to develop new research projects and approaches to studying chromatin biology.
•           Mentor and train junior scientists.

Requirements:
•           Demonstrated expertise in chromatin biology and epigenetics, with a strong publication record in this area.
•           Extensive experience in a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques, including  CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, gene expression analysis, and high-throughput sequencing and methodologies based on it to study protein-DNA interactions and chromatin accessibility.
•           Experience in developing and implementing novel techniques and approaches to studying chromatin.
•           Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
•           Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to mentor and train junior scientists.
•           Provide scientific expertise and train/direct others in research techniques
•           Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other members of the team and external partners.
•           Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•           PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field.

 

Project duration: 54 months
Salary: according to experience

SCIENTIST

Responsibilities of the successful candidate include:

·        apply a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques to investigate the mechanisms of nuclear processes.
·        design and execute experiments to investigate the role of chromatin dynamics in biological processes, including development, differentiation, and disease.
·        analyse and interpret data generated from experiments, and present findings to the scientific community.
·        collaborate with other members of the team and external partners to develop new research projects and approaches to studying chromatin biology.
·        keep current with the latest developments in the field of chromatin biology to inform research directions.

Requirements:
·        PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field. Experience in chromatin biology, epigenetics or investigating disease mechanisms will be favoured.
·        Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and execute complex experiments.
·        Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
·        Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
 
·        Experience in various molecular and cellular biology techniques, including chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, gene expression analysis, and high-throughput sequencing.

Research Technician/Junior Postdoc

The successful candidate will play a key role in conducting research projects focused on understanding the mechanisms of chromatin diseases at the molecular level.
Responsibilities:
·        Conduct molecular biology experiments such as DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, cloning, sequencing, immunostaining, etc.
·        Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, such as PCR machines, gel electrophoresis systems, and microscopy systems.
·        Assist in the development and optimisation of experimental protocols
·        Collect and analyse data, and maintain accurate records of experiments
·        Prepare and present reports and summaries of research findings
·        Collaborate with other team members to achieve project goals
·        Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols

Qualifications:
·        Master's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
·        At least 1-2 years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory setting
·        Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (such as DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, cloning, sequencing, etc.).
·        Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills
·        Strong communication and interpersonal skills
·        Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
·        Attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot experiments
