Special Session

"Willmore Energy: Fundamentals, Generalizations and Applications"

The field of Willmore type energies and Willmore surfaces represents a rich area for study and discovery, which is currently under rapid development and growth. These topics lie at the intersection between calculus of variations, differential geometry, PDE analysis, and integrable systems. The main goal of this session is to present contemporary research on Willmore energy and its extensions, as well as new applications to biology, medicine and biophysics. We strongly encourage original research communications on generalizations of Willmore energies and their applications (e.g. elastic bending energies, Helfrich type energies, energies of biological membranes, protein energies and shapes).
