Project SteviaNanoBiotech

Influence of newly synthesized amino acid nanofibers carriers of biologically active agents on in vitro propagation and accumulation of secondary metabolites in Stevia rebaudiana Berton

Funding organization: National Science Fund (https://www.fni.bg/)
Contract No: КП-06-Н56/8
Call: Competition for financial support for basic research projects- 2021
Research area: Agricultural sciences
Research Organization: Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
Partner Organization: University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy
Start – End: 2021-2025
Budget: 170 000 BGN

The SteviaNanoBiotech project aims to optimize the in vitro propagation processes of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni to accumulate needed biologically active secondary metabolites (BASM). Nanofibers can be used for the supply of biologically active agents (ВАА), that favourably affect plant development and accumulation of BASM.
The project includes various interdisciplinary (chemical, biotechnological, biochemical and phytochemical) approaches for characterization and evaluation Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni micropropagation and growth as well as BASM production affected by a new type of nanofibers, formed by newly synthesized low molecular weight peptidomimetics. In some of the experimental series, these nanofibers will carry ВАА (silver or plant growth regulators). These issues will be a fundamental base for further investigations concerning the implementation of technology with a positive effect on pharmaceutical products and modern health management technologies.
